Parmenide non si è limitato a delineare la sua famosa teoria dell'essere. Il suo nome è legato anche a un elaborato sapere sul mondo fisico e su aspetti del mondo della vita, ma quest'altra dimensione della sua personalità è stata a lungo lasciata in ombra, trascurata o addirittura negata. Solo di recente la comunità scientifica ha provato a spiegare in vari modi la sorprendente coesistenza, nel medesimo poema didascalico, di due insegnamenti tanto diversi tra loro.

Di questa insidiosa problematica il professor Cordero ha discusso a fondo nella cornice di ELEATICA 2006, suscitando il vasto dibattito che è parte integrante del volume.

Néstor-Luis Cordero è professore emerito all'Università di Rennes 1 e Direttore del Centro de Estúdios de Filosofía Antigua alla Universidad Nacional de San Martín (Buenos Aires).

A Parmenide ha dedicato, in particolare, Les deux chemins de Parménide (Paris-Bruxelles 1986) e By Being, It Is (Las Vegas, 2006).

Parmenide is not limited to his famous theory of being. His name is also linked to an elaborate knowledge about the physical world and his view on the world of life, but this other dimension of his personality has long been left in the dark, ignored or even denied. Only recently the scientific community has tried to explain in many ways the surprising coexistence, in the same didactic poem, of two significantly different teachings.

Professor Cordero has discussed in depth this complex problem in the course of ELEATICA 2006, prompting a broad debate. His lecture was followed by a discussion with contributions from G. Cerri, F. Gambetti, A. Herrmann, F. Marcacci, M. Pulpito, Ch. Robbiano, L. Rossetti and A. Wacziarg, which are an integral part of this publication.
